Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

Author’s Note: This piece is a content essay on US history. I am working on Vocabulary, Transitions, and Organizing paragraphs. If you could write a comment or give some feedback that would be great.
Would you want to be a president who just war the Civil war? Would you be scared? Or would you think it is all over? Abraham Lincoln really didn’t see it coming. With the assassination they killed Abe Lincoln, but it was still a fail.

The assassination happen on April 14, 1835. 5 days after the Confederate General, Robert Lee, surrenders to the Union. When a well-known actor John Booth, planned and carried out the assassination. They were going to kill the president, the secretary of state, and the vice president. President Lincoln was shot while he was watching a play, Our American Cousin, in Ford’s theater. Abe did not died right away, but he died the next morning. The rest of the plot failed though.  The secretary of state was only wounded and the Vice president assassin lost his nerve and fled.

Abraham Lincoln was the first president to assassinated, except for the failed attempted to assassinate Andrew Jackson. The US was hit with a long lasting impact. And many city wars broke out for people that supported Booth. For the Ford Theater, John Ford tried to open it again, but nobody wanted to go there, so the government bought it and made it into a office building. Then the insides collapsed and then it just became a storage building.

Though the plan was failure, they still killed the president. Now they have the gun that killed Abraham Lincoln in a museum in Washington D.C. I think that Abraham Lincoln could have a even better president if he lived because he could of done so much more.

ITALY

Author’s Note: This is a content essay for social studies: the 5 Themes of Geography. I am working on transitions, organizing my paragraphs, and vocabulary. If you could give me some feedback, that would be great.

You look out the window of the plane. You start bouncing up and down in your seat, because you see Italy right below you. After sitting on a plane for 12 hours, you just want to grab your luggage and jump off the plane and if this was me I would actually jumped, if I had a parachute. I would go any day and anytime time.
Italy all started in the 8th and 7th century B.C. when the Greeks settled in the Italian Peninsula. Then the Etruscans, Romans, and others inhabited Italy and were unified by the Roman Republic. In the 5th century A.D. the Roman Empire crashed and several invasions came and all political unity were destroyed. After that it was ton of civilization grew and Italy was a total war zone. Once the Renaissance came idea became stronger to unite Italy. In the 19th Century a national movement united all of Italy except for the romans.

Their government is a Democratic republic.  The constitution was set on January 1, 1948. In Italy there are providences just like in Canada and each providence has its own capitol right in the middle. In addition to the Providences there are 20 regions, but 5 of them, Sardinia, Sicily, Trentino-Alto Adige, Valle d'Aosta, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, function a little bit differently with these special independent statutes.

No trip is complete without going to Rome. With so many historical structures to visit. From the Coliseum to the Roman Forum. So if you like Roman myths or jousting in the Coliseum. It is the perfect destination for people of all ages, and no matter what your tastes, you will enjoy a stay in Rome.

Now would you have wanted to jump off that plane or would be all “Yippee” (Sarcastically). I would still go any day. I thought it was really interesting that if the Romans never crashed and so many other cultures invaded that maybe it wouldn’t had been called Italy it could have been called Romania or something, because it would have been completely controlled by the Romans.

What I think should happen with the Government

What would it be like to be the President of the United States? Would you excited, nervous, and also would you be afraid of speak to the public. Millions of people watching you, depending on you. Would you be relaxed or stressed out? What if where given the chance to be the president, would you take it. If I were president I would want it so that there aren’t any parties. Then people wouldn’t hate on each other just because they are in a different party, maybe then they will actually listen to want they have to say. Just hating on the party with no reason, besides they are on a different party, is what is ruining our country.

First of all one thing is that people only want candidates to be either completely Democratic or completely Republican. If government is completely one sided there will still be problems. I think the best way to go is to take a little bit of both, so I am kind of an Independent. Say someone like me ran for president, they wouldn’t get a lot of votes because people would think they were too middle of the road.  It’s seems to me that a candidate today needs to be either fully democrat or fully republican. We should all be Independent, so we could agree on something’s, so we don’t spend 3 years debating about something.

My independent view about taxes and healthcare is that we start off with the democrat’s way by raising taxes for the wealthy and try to balance it with the poor. So once everyone is somewhat balanced, then everyone could get health insurance. After that I would use the republican idea of lowering taxes and having a smaller government and reduce spending.

As for stem cell research, I don’t think this is a big issue. It isn’t really cloning, because it is pretty much the same thing as donating a kidney or something similar to that. Plus every person has an individual personality and it’s not like it going to change it.  That’s what makes us unique. I strongly believe they should keep researching, because it could really help someone later in their lives.

On the topic of global warming, I think the republicans are wrong, because scientist have proved it and know that the pollution is ruining the atmosphere. The republicans think that earth just gets hotter over time and then gets cooler. The problem with that theory is that it has never been this hot before. I think that they should cut down on factory smoke stacks and work to research and develop electric cars. Cars are one of the main factors of global warming due to the exhaust and the number of people driving.

There are a lot of issues, some of them I feel that if we could agree on something it could easily be taken care of, others maybe not. In my opinion I don’t believe there should be democrat or republican, because some people are just getting voted out just because they are democrat or republican. Maybe if everyone was one party people would actually think about what they are saying. Maybe if we were all independent, we wouldn’t be separated to democrat or republican. You would say what think is right, not just what your party thinks. Then we could agree on something and fix these problems and even get out of our national debt. Overall I see that nothing going to happen with the government until someone can find some way that everyone can agree on.

Interview Paul Farrow (Jarod’s Dad), Wisconsin State Representative.
Questions:  How do people get elected?

1. Q:  Why are you interested in politics?  What got you started?
A:  My mom was former Lt. Governor.  Helped her out since about 12 years old.  Then I started my own company and realized that people need to step up and help out.  Want to help foster a great atmosphere in the state.

2. Q: Did you do hold any office prior to getting into the race?
A:  Yes, in 2001 appointed Richman school board. School board member for 4 years.

3.  Q: How did you get into the race?  How do you start a campaign?
A:  There is documentation that needs to be filed.  The document is called declaration of candidacy.  Collect signatures.  Find individuals within the district you would like to represent.  Needed 200 signatures and submitted for verification.  Once confirmed, then considered candidate for 98th district.  Then it’s just about running the campaign.  Finding out what people are interested in.

4.  Q: Why do you think Wisconsin seats moved toward republicans in this election?
A:  I believe it was the fact that government wasn’t spending the money properly.  When you get a job you get paid and you have to figure out how you’re going to use the money.  The government does the same thing.  A lot of people didn’t like that we were spending more money then we had and getting into debt.  We need to get people in there that we won’t spend money that we don’t have.  They want individuals in that are very conscience about how they spend the money.

5.  Q:  When do you start and how long is each session?
A:  I actually get sworn in tomorrow morning.  The assembly will take an oath saying that we will up hold the constitution of the state of Wisconsin.  The term is 2 years, so in 2012 I’ll have to run again.  If the people felt that I did a good job they can vote me back in or vote for someone else.  About 112 days total that we’ll be in session that we’ll be voting on laws and bills.  Beyond there will be days I’ll be out in Madison working on committees to help develop the language to write the bills we’ll vote on.

6.  Q:  Are you nervous or excited about starting?
A:  Very nervous and very excited at the same time.  You play football.  You know how you’re excited get the game started, but at the same time nervous because you don’t know what’s going to happen.  I’ve had a lot of practice and training.  Just like in football until you start playing the game.

7.  Q:  How often will you be in Madison and working on issues?
A:  Probably about 71 days in session.  There about 110 days I’ll spend there this entire year.  Will be in Madison mainly Wed and Thursday.    Mondays and Fridays in the district.

8.  Q:  What do you want to change or make a difference in?
A:  The biggest thing how can we reduce the amount of money we’re spending and making sure everyone still gets what they need.  Trying to figure out that kids like yourself can go to a good college and still make affordable.  Those are the big things I think I’m going to be working on.

  3. Wow! That was great. I can tell you put a lot of thought and hard work into this. I like how you did an interview and you made a prezi instead of a paper. You had a lot of helpful information. It was also great how you put in graphs and pictures. You had a few spelling and grammatical errors, but they didn't interfere with reading your project. Great job.

  4. I really like how you think the government should run I after reading it it got me thinking the same way too. Also When I tried to watch the prezi it went extremely fast and i couldn't read it. It was smart to interview Jarod's dad because we all knew he was running for the government at the time.
